Himalayan Civilisation Runs on Mountain Systems

India's ecological reality is defined by the intersection of the Himalayas in the north and seas on three sides. Monsoon winds, sediment flow, and mountain hydrology together sustain agriculture, wetlands, groundwater, and food security across the subcontinent. The Gangetic plains exist because of Himalayan sediment.

Western models of water management and resource governance, the group cautioned, do not map onto these interdependencies. India needs frameworks rooted in its own ecological logic.
